4th & 5th March 2024

What makes an open source project flourish? We want to encourage more discourse about the non-coding aspects of successful open source projects. Join us to learn more about what goes on behind the stages of Free and Open Source Software!

The sixth edition of FOSS Backstage will take place in Berlin (and online) on 4th and 5th March 2024. If you are interested in supporting FOSS Backstage as a partner, please contact partner@foss-backstage.de or have a look at our prospectus to learn more.

Announcing FOSS Backstage Design

Our sub-event focused on UX & Design

We are thrilled to announce FOSS Backstage Design — a sub-event of FOSS Backstage where we want to gather everyone interested in User Experience & Design within Free and Open Source software projects. The event will take place in Berlin on March 6th – the day after FOSS Backstage 2024. UX & Design talks have always been a part of FOSS Backstage, but with #FOSSDesign we want to dedicate an entire day to this important aspect in software development.

FOSS Backstage Design

Building a great user experience for FOSS projects comes with special challenges which is why we think those challenges should be discussed at a separate event. As a sub-event of FOSS Backstage we want to bring people from different FOSS projects together to exchange ideas and discuss best practices.

We are looking for talks which educate others on the best practices in open source project leadership, community management, open source project metrics, open source strategy for enterprise, adopting open source collaboration in corporations, legal matters when dealing with open source and many more.

The deadline for submissions is November 15th, 23:59 CET.

bUm – A new venue for FOSS Backstage

After two brilliant editions of FOSS Backstage at TUECHTIG in Wedding, we’ve reached full capacity and are now moving to a new venue: bUm in the district of Kreuzberg.

The venue boasts a mix of listed substance and modern fixtures and offers plenty of room for exciting talks, relaxed conversations and networking. With a spacious main stage, light-flooded winter garden, welcoming foyer and a couple of modern meeting rooms it provides FOSS Backstage with everything it needs.

bUm is fully accessible for walking impaired participants, easy to reach by public transport and its central location in the popular district of Kreuzberg makes it a great starting point for some post-conference explorations of Berlin.

Impressions from 2023

At FOSS Backstage 2023 we had two amazing days meeting old friends and making new acquaintances, filled with exciting talks and discussions. With more than 150 participants on-site we sold out our venue TUECHTIG – and another 80+ watching the livestream.

Recordings & Archive

Over the years more than 170 sessions have been presented at FOSS Backstage. The recordings of all those sessions represent the experience and knowledge of our speakers – and you can watch all of them on our YouTube channel.
